Tyson, by the way, is my dyson. I was vacuuming when I heard these squeaky sounds. Then I shut the vacuum off and tilted it back. When I turned the vacuum on again, the roll brush inside (designed to catch long hairs and such) did not turn, even when I had the setting on "carpet" which should make it turn. I tried it again, and again, and it didn't turn.
I thought about it, I suppose it isn't Tyson's fault. There were a couple of "test" runs where I tried vacuuming things like rubberbands, plaster debris, and even a coin. I guess I shouldn't have. Oh well... at least I have Costco's lifetime return policy! Since I used a carpet powder before I vacuumed, I went ahead and vacuumed the rest of the apartment first.
Then I went online to dyson.com to take a look at the instruction manual. I'm sure I saw a picture in there somewhere of the brush taken out, maybe something got stuck and I can fix it. Then that's when I saw words of relief...
Apparently, the dyson has an automatic brush rolling system where if you have the unit tilted back or in any other position, the brush doesn't work. I guess it's to protect people from jamming their fingers in it?
So I suppose my dyson isn't broken after all!
P.S. After I did my normal vacuuming today and cleared the container, I decided I had some time to try doing "corners" with the removable wand. I did the corners of my bedroom and... the container was 1/4 full with Moley hair! What the? This vacuum never ceases to amaze me.
