I am finally making good on my resolution to become more fit. There are a lot of things that have changed for me lately, mostly I've decided to concentrate on getting more physically fit.
It all started last Monday when I played tennis in Cerritos with Yona. We lasted about 25 minutes in the hot sun. Okay, it was actually closer to 15. What an embarrassment! Back in high school we'd play at least an hour of tennis every day mixed in with running greens (although I do remember hiding out more than I remember actually running them) and all of that.
So, taking baby steps at a time I started with Pilates. I forced myself to walk across the street (Yes, all 20 yards) and I took a mat class. It has been so long since I've done anything of a physical nature that I really tired myself out. The next day I upped it a little with cardio... I walked all 10 steps to my elevator to go to the mini-gym on the second floor. I lasted 15 minutes on the treadmill! Hey- it's a start!
I also started to alter my eating habits. Yes- seriously! I drink veggie juice every morning, cut waaaaay back on bad carbs like white bread, pasta, rice, noodles, basically all the good stuff. I try to eat more lean protein and more veggies. Just healthier in general.
Then I went to check out
Yoga Works on Montana Ave. I signed up for the new student special ($40 for a month of unlimited yoga... what a deal :P) and I've been to two classes so far.

I swear I've begun to feel a difference! Okay I cannot do any complicated poses yet (mostly just lying down poses and standing poses) but there is this moment of calm, period of peace after a session of Yoga where you just feel yourself. You don't feel any tension. The surroundings melt away. You are just more aware of yourself and your body and it's amazing. Anyway it is also a great stretching session after cardio or any other workouts. Anyone wanna join me?

I've also joined
Bodies in Motion, which again is embarrasingly close to my house. To the point where I complain about the fact that you only get 2 hours of free parking there but I'm embarrassed because it's so close I really should be jogging to the gym. Today I even complained about parking too far from the elevator. Heh. Well hopefully that outlook will change soon. I've been there twice so far. Yesterday was my first time working out with a personal trainer, wow what a difference! I learned a lot... two years ago when I was working out I was wondering why my arms seemed to keep getting bigger instead of slimmer and now I kind of know what I'm doing. I mainly joined this gym because of the plethora of classes they offer... yoga, pilates, boxing, breakdancing, hip-hop, cardio strip-tease, and the list goes on. Also because the facility is so cleeeean. I love it. Also the elliptical machines (yay for these, boo for treadmills) have personal tv's on them so I can watch Law & Order while I sweat.

There is also a private pilates studio... i'll be having my first pilates training session on Friday!
So I've had a pretty busy week! I feel more physically fit although I don't see a difference yet. I have more energy during the day and I sleep more soundly at night. I am definitely enjoying my days more... rather than before where I'd lie around the house watching TV now I have the option to workout, join a class, or take a yoga session. Also did I mention the Yoga studio is on Montana Ave? That means before my class I can sneak into Wagging Tail to get my pups some treats, and afterwards I can cross the street to Wild Oats and get some veggie juice with wheatgrass. (Yes, I've become one of
those)
So what's next? I might start frequenting (gasp!) organic restaurants. Literati Cafe on Wilshire (only a half block away from my house). Coral Tree Cafe in Brentwood. Le Pain Quotidien for those yummy croissants. Yes, I may even start to
eat vegetables rather than
drink them. Well, maybe not yet.
