Fob Night

For some reason, yesterday I had an extreme craving for Beef Noodle Stew for dinner... the kind I used to eat in Monterey Park as a kid. A craving just popped up that could only be fulfilled by trekking down to the corner of Garfield and Valley... so Steve and I made plans to go to San Gabriel for dinner. To avoid traffic, we left at around 8:30PM which was alright by me since I didn't even get home from work until almost 8PM.

By the time we arrived in San Gabriel I was so hungry that while Steve went to the ATM (almost all restaurants in SGV are Cash Only), I popped into Phoenix Desserts to get a Mango Delight -- a milky drink with mini tapioca balls (not boba) and fresh mango. This drink is seriously the most delightful drink in the world. I mean, it even tastes cute and happy.

So for dinner we went to Shau Mei... which is a street-style cafe that serves Hong Kong and Taiwanese home-y food. I got the Beef Noodle Stew and Steve got a 3-item combo. We also got Shanghai Pan-Friend Small Bao (more on that below). Now I don't know how they do it, but the 3-item combo had more than enough food to feed us both and it was only $4. Shau Mei actually has another location down the street on Valley that is All-You-Can-Eat for $4. This has got to be some very low-quality food! Which means nothing beats it in taste. :)

So after the oil-drenched, scalding hot Chinese food, we decided to make it a Fob Night by heading into Cue next door -- yes.... another sticker picture store. :) I mean I didn't suggest to take sticker pictures just by my own fobby account -- this is not a regular habit for me like it is for Aai. We had Lulu in the car and I thought it would be cute to take one with her. :) So we took pictures (which I will post all over this blog, Friendster, Myspace and Facebook later, just to annoy you) and left.

And today I came to the knowledge that leftover Chinese food make the best snacks at work! At Phoenix I bought some Mango pudding which was a little powdery but still made a good breakfast. And for lunch today, I stuck the leftover baos in the toaster oven and oh good Lord they tasted as good as they did yesterday.

Yum.
