Flashback

I had a physical therapy appointment this morning at 8:30am. It was brutal. I don't think I went to bed that late last night... probably crashed around 11:30, right after watching The Office. I've been getting on average 6-7 hours of sleep a night so I was surprised that I was still so sleepy after getting a good 8 hours.

Anyways, it was hard to stay awake in today's PT session. It reminds me of working out with Russ in the mornings when I lived at the Borgata, falling asleep at the rowing machine. To make matters worse, my therapist was busy so we mixed up my order, doing the exercises first and then going into the room for the "massage" part last. As I lay on the vinyl-covered treatment table waiting for my therapist and slowly dozed off into a light nap, I had a sudden flashback of my high school years, lying in the nurse's office during class.

I used to get really bad cramps in high school and I often used it as an excuse to take an hour nap in the nurse's office. As I was laying in the cold, dark room with the door cracked open enough to hear a low mumbling of people speaking, I immediately thought back to those mid-afternoon nurse's office naps.

Oh, what I'd give to be back in high school again. =)

Longest Week Ever

Man, what a week :(

Last Sunday night Lulu cried out in random pain and spent the rest of the night shaking and whimpering. I took her to the vet first thing on Monday morning and after a series of blood work and x-rays they determined that something was wrong with her hips. Apparently after much painful manipulation they were able to mimic a movement which caused the hip bone to jump out of its joint/socket and that was what was bothering her. They said that she has very healthy hips and wasn't genetically disposed to hip dysplasia and that this was most likely do to long-term aggravation.

So the poor girl was sedated and put on major painkillers and I've been working from home since, monitoring her.

Today was my turn to jump on the painkiller bandwagon -- I had my wisdom tooth taken out. At 28! I've taken my wisdom teeth out before, but I guess I only removed 2. So this time it was my right upper wisdom tooth. It was impacted and wearing against the 2nd tooth so out it went. Unfortunately, my dentist saw that I had no bone behind it to support the other tooth so they also had to do a graft.

Long story short, 3 vicodin later, I am up in the middle of the night with a messed up sleep schedule, nausea and a sick puppy.

Super-August Post

I can't believe it's been over a month since I posted! I guess I felt so "in touch" with Yona, Vina and Aai this month I felt absolutely no need to share anything else. =) Let's do a quick recap of the only thing I can remember from this month -- my birthday.

I celebrated my birthday about 5 times this year. It all started with an early visit from Vina and Yusuke about the week before my bday. She came to drop off my presents for safe-keeping just in case she couldn't make it back to LA on the 10th. What the heck? Everyone knows you cannot leave an unwrapped present with me. Christmas is already brutal enough!

So we made a deal -- quick trip to Sweet Lady Jane for cake, and then I can open presents. So off we went...

Their raspberry chocolate cake is the best ever.

Mmmmm...

Vina's gift to me: a Happy Six GC to buy the Tokidoki solar watch. The GC was for $97 because her credit card wouldn't work and this was all the cash she had in her wallet. Hahahhaha. I can just imagine her going through all of her tip money, all one dollar bills, and the cashier thinking... why does she have so many one dollar bills????

On my actual birthday, Yona got me a surprise birthday cake but accidentally left it on the floor when we went out so Tofu got into it.

She completely obliterated the red velvet cake:

But at least there was some chocolate cake left for me:

Here I am in present-opening session 3, opening Mommy's present:

Also this month, Tofu got her first piece of designer clothing. Her wardrobe isn't quite as sophisticated as Lulu's yet, as most of Tofu's pieces come from Target. But now, she dons a Juicy tracksuit.

And shoes:

Living with a cat has been quite interesting. The first week was pretty bad with the allergies, but I'm slowly getting used to it. I just need my daily dose of Claritin and I'm good. Lately, though, Angel has been biting my toes while I sleep. :(

And last but not least, little Lulu. I made her a little Totoro themed chair to sit in while we watch TV.

Now Yona uses it to put down her purse. :(

Okay, that shall be it for now. You can tell how tired I am because it was all pictures and no writing. I am all written out. And *you* know why.

Tofu-isms

I realized I haven't had the chance to document Tofu's childhood "months" too much, so this post is dedicated to her. She will be hitting puberty very soon so we had her spayed on Monday. Here are some random notes on Tofu.

- She just loves to lick. I wonder if she'll ever grow out of it? Fingers, toes, faces, legs, anything she can stick her tongue out at, she will lick. The funniest is that when she first met Angel, she licked his face even though he clearly did not enjoy it.

- She is such a picky eater. She rarely ever finishes her meal if we only give her dry food. Only when we mix it with some wet food will she eat heartily. It is probably for this reason that she didn't grow that much and is still small.

- She has a funny bark. When we first got her, she had two distinct barks. One was extremely high pitched and annoying, the other was very low and sounded like a boy going through puberty. Now she kind of has a medium bark that combines the awkwardness of the first two. She often barks after Lulu does when a person walks down the hallway.

- Her peeing and pooing is unpredictable. Unlike Lulu who goes to the bathroom like clockwork, you never know if Tofu needs to go once, twice or three times. She's had more accidents in the house than my previous pups (I think?) and it's getting a little annoying.

- She will eat anything. Some of the more notorious items she has chewed up: two pairs of Havaianas flip-flops, the Apple remote control, my blue nail clipper holder, the entire COUCH, clothes, cat poop, cat litter, shoelaces... the list goes on.

- She comes more often if you call out "Lulu" than "Tofu".

- She only has tear stains on one eye, even after two full bottles of Angel Eyes.

When we leave her in the house to go to work, she tears it up. Literally. The following pictures are all from ONE INCIDENT, where we left her at home with Lulu for 2 hours.

So You Think You Can DANCE DANce dance...

We spent the last couple of days marathoning "So You Think You Can Dance" to catch up. This season I only have a couple of favorites, and many more unfavorites. These are the most memorable dance routines in my mind so far.

My favorite dancer throughout the season is Will. His power, grace and just the sheer beauty of his body is awe-inspiring. The Adam & Eve dance was one of my favorites, even though I thought Jessica was a little bit shaky in it.

The Bollywood dance was very surprising and almost pleasant. I don't like Joshua or Katee but even I have to admit this was a great routine and showed their versatility. Their accuracy in this routine was incredible also.

So I've disliked Katee ever since the "Top 20" auditions moment where she sold out her friend to be on the show. Ever since that scene on the stage where she couldn't stop crying, I just couldn't stand seeing her face. I didn't mind so much to focus on her body as she dances since she is such a technical and precise dancer, but something about that face... Only when she was paired up with Will did I start softening up to her.

This routing with Will and Katee was very cute and deceptingly difficult. Their fancy footwork in, on and around the boat was impressive.

Twitch is my second favorite (which bummed me out that both Will and Twitch were in the bottom two last week), and I really enjoyed this number between him and Katee. The dancing as spectacular, as always, but even moreso I enjoyed the theatrics of this one. I'm always a sucker for "passionate fight scenes" and this one translated into a contemporary dance was just stunning.

And lastly, my biggest unfavorite was Comfort. I felt that in all of her solos she was unoriginal and repeated the same 5 moves from her playbook over and over again. However, I did enjoy this performance with Twitch when she finally came out of her slump and delivered an exhilirating performance. This routine showcased both Twitch and Comfort's strengths and was really fun to watch.

I am so bummed that Will got kicked off the show so early, I was really rooting for him to win the whole thing. I am not motivated to watch the rest of the season. I am a little bit curious to see how far Katee makes it or to see who gets kicked off next. I really think Joshua or Mark should have taken Will's place last week to take the boot. Boo.
